Thirty miles southeast of Seattle there’s a little town made famous by David Lynch and Nintendo. While it may take you an hour to get there if traffic’s bad the evening of Saturday, April 20, you can make the trip to North Bend in comfort in a 2018 Ford Focus SE. And once you get there, all manner of jazz awaits.
The North Bend Jazz Walk features jazz for everyone: duets, trios, quartets, all-saxophone bands, torch singers, bebop, and big band jazz, as well as performances by some of the best up-and-coming young musicians in the high school ensemble series. You can purchase tickets in advance for $25 or pay $30 at the door. A single ticket lets you stroll through 14 different venues in a six-block area.
Here are some of the musicians who’ll be there: Kelly Johnson Trio, Dan Marcus & Trombonosaurus Wrecks, Dmitri Matheny Quartet, Danny Kolke Trio + Chris Fagan, Steve Treseler + Student Allstars, Elevation Gain, Milo Petersen with Steve Griggs, Drew Baddeley, Diana Page Duo, Thomas Marriott Quintet, Jennifer Kienzle & Cole Schuster, Bernie Jacobs Quartet, CWU Green Combo, Paul Green Quintet, Johnaye Kendrick Trio, Boxley ProAm Big Band, Jay Thomas, and the Intergalactic Four Tenor Sax Band.
If you’re not already driving a Focus, you can change that by stopping in at Sound Ford in Renton.
