Arm-in-arm with NBC's GIVE program, Ford Motor Company Fund provided support for two nonprofit organizations in Washington, DC recently to commemorate their assistance for U.S. military veterans.
Together, they presented the Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) and Bunker Labs DC with $15,000 and $10,000, respectively, giving the two nonprofits a surprise for the ages. Ford's no stranger to surprise reveals - check out their surprise for a Dallas firehouse in the video below:
The decision to award the two organizations was concurred by Jim Vella, the president of Ford Fund.
“Most important is community need — you always want to meet the greatest need,” he said. “You make some of the decision with your head and some with your heart.”
Through the arts - comedy, writing, and more - ASAP gives veterans and military families the space to heal and reintegrate into their communities. Bunker Labs specializes in networking, events and mentoring for military veterans with entrepreneurial aspirations.
“This is incredibly humbling,” Sam Pressler, the founder of ASAP, said. “We will be able to take this check and empower hundreds of veterans to come home and find a voice and purpose in the community. It’s incredible. We’re so grateful.”

One could say that Ford's Next Generation Learning program is picking up steam. Teaming up with the Ford STEAM program, it recently held a contest and awarded grants totaling $50,000 to a select number of high school students.
The students were recognized for their potential to use STEAM skills to make strides in advancing sustainable communities, ultimately bettering the lives of others. For the challenge, students delved into addressing current issues and unsatisfied needs in health, technology and more.
After reviewing the contenders, a panel of Ford reviewers awarded prizes ranging from $5,000 to the $20,000 first-place prize. The winning school teams are as follows:

In celebration of its 30th year, the Salvation Army of Metro Detroit will host its annual Bed & Bread Club Radiothon Presented by Ford Motor Company Fund from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on February 24. Jim Vella, the president of Ford Fund, will also stop by to chat with News/Talk 760 WJR radio hosts around 2 p.m. during the live event broadcast.
For more than five years running, the Blue Oval's philanthropic arm has provided the same number of Ford vehicles to The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division; this year, Ford's upping its support to bolster The Salvation Army's heightened outreach in the area.
“This milestone anniversary of the Radiothon is a testament to the generosity of our corporate partners, the community, volunteers and staff of the Bed & Bread program,” Major Russ Sjögren, the general secretary and metro Detroit area commander for The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division, said in a statement. “We give special thanks to Ford Motor Company Fund for stepping up as our presenting sponsor and leading the corporate giving charge.”
Every day, The Salvation Army’s Bed & Bread program provides food and shelter for numerous metro Detroiters. Despite increased efforts, though, the overarching problems still persist, making philanthropic gestures ever more impactful.
“While Detroit is making progress in its economic turnaround, there are still too many people suffering from hunger and homelessness in our neighborhoods,” Vella, a member of The Salvation Army National Advisory Board, added. “There is no better time for our community to join together and contribute to a proud tradition that helps people from all walks of life.”

The votes are in for this year's Ford Salute to Dealers Awards, which honors six dealers for dedication and generosity to their respective communities. The honorees for 2016 are as follows:
Ken Crowley of Crowley Ford in Lincoln, Plainville, Connecticut: In support of JDRF, Crowley held an annual golf tournament that raised over $1 million. Crowley Ford Lincoln also participates in the U.S. Army Reserve's Employer Partnership Initiative and other programs.
Natalie Tindol of Tindol Ford in Gastonia, North Carolina: Involved with both the local YMCA and Girl Scouts, Tindol has a prominent leadership role amongst youth in her community. She is also the past president of the Community Foundation of Gaston County.
Alan Jay Wildstein of Alan Jay Ford Lincoln, Inc. in Sebring, Florida: Notably, Wildstein's Alan Jay Wheels for A's program gives away a late-model vehicle to a graduating senior at five local high schools in the area. Wildstein is also heavily involved with Habitat for Humanity - his 17th sponsored home is already committed for 2017.
Vaughn A. Wyant of Jubilee Ford Sales Ltd. in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada: Along with local businesses and dealerships, Wyant notably created and auctioned off a specially designed Ford F-100 truck to raise $450,000 for the Children's Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan.
Paul Brown of John Andrew Ford in Auckland, New Zealand: As a committed advocate of Camp Quality, which serves children affected by cancer, Brown's dealership has raised over $950,000 to date for the camp. Brown also has experience serving on local school boards with an emphasis on fundraising efforts.
Turgay Mersin of Sadıkoğlu, Uşak, Turkey: Mersin and his family's dealership group have made long-lasting contributions both to their community and their country's economy, as demonstrated through multiple projects that emphasize education, health and well-being.

Ford hit high sales numbers in 2016 - which were punctuated by overwhelming success of the F-Series trucks and Ford's SUVs - but its philanthropic achievements were worthy of merit as well. Combined, Ford and Lincoln dealers nationwide contributed over $100 million and 800,000 hours last year in support of local nonprofits and causes; the final numbers were reported in Ford Motor Company's survey on Dealer Giving, which is distributed annually.
The survey's timing couldn't have been better. Its release aligns perfectly with the 17th-annual Salute to Dealers Awards, which is being delivered in New Orleans at the 2017 National Automobile Dealers Association Convention and Expo.
According to the survey, almost 80 percent of dealers reported that their teams gave money and time to local causes; the majority of dealers also reported that giving back to their communities is ingrained in their dealership tradition and company culture. The dealerships' support ranges from environmental issues to children's charities, to disaster relief and more.

Five U.S. military veterans were recently awarded $10,000 scholarships as part of Ford Motor Company's "Trading One Uniform for Another" program, which was developed in partnership with the Disabled American Veterans organization (DAV).
Quick Lane Tire & Auto Center announced the award recipients, as stated in a Ford release, saying that the scholarships will help offset expenditures related to obtaining a certification in automotive maintenance and repair.
Representatives at Quick Lane promoted the awards to demonstrate the importance of supporting service men and women who have retired from active military duty. The awards will put the veterans on the track to become qualified automotive technicians, giving them an opportunity for a bright future beyond their military duties. The scholarships are able to be applied towards tuition, books and other fees at community colleges, universities, trade or vocational schools nationwide that provide accredited programs for automotive mechanics.
As stated in the same release by Frederiek Toney, the president of Global Ford's Customer Service Division, “The ‘Trading One Uniform For Another’ program is another example of Quick Lane’s commitment to the men and women who served our country and helping to provide employment opportunities after their service. We are proud to stand beside the DAV in awarding these scholarships to our U.S. military veterans, thanking them for their service, and congratulating them on the pursuit of a career in automotive maintenance and repair.”

In joint efforts to cultivate new ideas and promote growth, Ford recently partnered up with the National FFA Organization and Discovery Education to provide more than 54,000 students nationwide the inside scoop on Ford's engineering and design efforts for the future.
Specifically, the occasion demonstrated how the Blue Oval is crafting its F-Series trucks to meet the needs of agriculture customers. Participating students were able to observe how Ford's F-150 and Super Duty trucks are built and tested to increase farmer productivity; a virtual field trip also provided attendees with introductions to Ford truck designers and engineers. A live stream of the event ensured that students nationwide could join in; over 1,000 classrooms tuned into the stream.
The collaboration wasn't Ford's first foray into the realm of agriculture. They have been a sponsor of the National FFA since 1948 and, perhaps most notably, has sponsored Built Ford Tough scholarships for prospective farmers. Ford's investment recognizes what consumers demand - agriculture and livestock industries are representative of markets where the F-Series has the highest level of reputability, compared to other trucks' 40 percent of farmworkers drive F-150 trucks and 36 percent use Super Duty trucks to carry out their daily jobs, as cited by a Ford release that references IHS data.
Doug Scott, Ford's truck group marketing manager, expressed his enthusiasm for the event in the same release. “We were excited to undertake this new opportunity with FFA and Discovery Education,” he said. "What better way to demonstrate the power and capability of F-Series trucks, and the customer leadership Ford owns, than through the hands and eyes of our future toughest employees and customers.”

One could say that Ford Motor Company and its philanthropic branch, the Ford Motor Company Fund, recently got into a bit of 'treble' with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. But the three entities didn't cause any mischief together - rather, they confirmed exciting plans for next year, which will be bolstered by Ford's notable contributions to the Orchestra's upcoming international tour.
After 16 years, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra will embark on its debut tour around the world, playing 11 concerts conducted by Leonard Slatkin, the organization's Musical Director. The tour stops will run from July 14-29, 2017, and are scheduled in Japan and China. Two cities on the tour - Shanghai and Chongqing - are slated to be harmonious occasions in particular, as the Blue Oval has a major manufacturing presence in those areas. The stops in China will be the orchestra's inaugural visit there. Anticipated performance pieces include Copland's Symphony No. 3, Bernstein’s Candide overture, McTee’s Double Play, Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, Korngold’s Violin Concerto and Takemitsu’s Far Calls. As a way to reinforce their partnership and take advantage of the orchestra's tenure in China, the stops in its cities will also include special get-togethers with Ford employees in the region. The relationship between the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Ford is a long-standing one: it found its origins in the 1930s, back when Ford showed support for the group's radio broadcasts, and has escalated over the decades. Today, Ford is the tour's primary corporate sponsor and stands behind the orchestra's groundbreaking efforts to reach audiences in new areas - the musicians participate in Live from Orchestra Hall webcasts and Replay, an on-demand archive that records a plethora of performances for audience consumption. Additionally, Ford supports orchestra performances native to the Detroit area, further upholding its value for local organizations.
With the tour on the horizon, the bond between Ford and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra means more than ever. “This tour requires a strong collective of thoughtful and strategic partners,” Anne Parsons, Detroit Symphony Orchestra president and CEO, commented. “I particularly want to thank Ford and all of our current supporters.”

Plans for the Motown Museum's $50 million expansion recently received a hefty boost, thanks to a $6 million investment that Ford and UAW-Ford committed on November 18.
Residents and visitors to Detroit, Michigan need not worry that the Museum is moving from its current home on West Grand Boulevard. The original $50 million price tag for growth was slated to fund a 50,000-square-foot complex, which will be erected around the current Motown Museum. Now, with an extra $6 million available, there are even more opportunities for expansion and refinement. In particular, the contribution will go towards the Ford Motor Company Theater, a component of the new complex.
It's been a swift acceleration in progress and anticipated growth since the Motown Museum revealed its expansion plans; the news was publicly announced only one month prior. Building on its appeal to tourists, the museum's new complex will serve as a world-class tourist destination.Its established history as the site of Motown Records' original studio and headquarters makes the site a prime place to build upon, in anticipation of the future.
The notable donation from Ford and Ford-UAW qualifies them as leads donors on the Museum's project; their joint contribution will also provide necessary resources for music and educational programming that the Museum hopes to provide. In addition, part of the donation will facilitate a CARaoke Experience at the Museum that incorporates music with Ford-specific vehicles, for a more immersive experience.
Six million dollars are nothing to toss around lightly, but in the case of Ford and Ford-UAW's contribution, their donation of such an amount is only part of their overall investment in Detroit spending. The Motown Musem project is one of multiple community initiatives that Ford is supporting in 2016, and part of $10 million that will go towards the city's spending in the next five years. For nearly a decade running, Ford Motor Company has made Thanksgiving a little brighter for Detroit residents in need. Working in tandem with the Detroit Area Agency on Aging, the automaker participates in the DAAA's Holiday Meals on Wheels Thanksgiving program to ensure that over 6,000 area homebound seniors can gobble up turkey, potatoes and more. November 24 wasn't any different, in the best ways possible.
As a sign of its support, Ford made a $50,000 donation to DAAA to cover the expenses for the community-wide Thanksgiving meal. The donation also provides funding for the daily meal service that the DAAA provides throughout the year. However, the Blue Oval's support went beyond monetary means - employees and families of Ford also joined together the day before Thanksgiving to put together fresh meals at Detroit's Valley Services.
Pamela Alexander, the director of Community Development at Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services, expressed her support for the joint effort. “At Ford we don’t just build great cars and trucks, we also build communities,” she said. “By providing thousands of meals to seniors in our region on Thanksgiving we help to ensure that no one is hungry on this holiday.”
To ensure that its impact goes beyond one holiday, the Ford Fund also assists hunger relief agencies to bolster communities year-round. This year, it joins The Parade Company and Gleaners Community Food Bank to address a notable 715,000 local residents in need in the southeast Michigan area.
“While we celebrate this holiday season with friends, family, and a nice meal, homebound seniors and adults with disabilities in our community are often neglected. That’s why we are sharing the love and feeding our homebound and disabled adults this Thanksgiving,” Paul Bridgewater, the president and CEO of DAAA, said in a released statement. “That’s why we are thankful for the Ford Motor Company Fund. They are driving away hunger on Thanksgiving with their generous donation that enables us to deliver fresh, hot, traditional Thanksgiving meals to 6,000 seniors. To us, the donation and the volunteers they’re supplying to DAAA are a much-needed gift to our entire community.”
