Ford has launched a new, free-to-use ridesharing pilot program to help the impoverished residents of Detroit get to and from two local food banks using the brand’s 2018 Transit Connect. It’s similar to the successful GoRide initiative which takes poverty-stricken citizens (predominantly seniors and individuals with disabilities) to their doctor's appointments.
Since the project began in November, the company has assisted over 100 people in just over a month. The goal is to address the underlying issue of the correlation between income inequality and transportation. According to studies, the latter needs to be reliable and affordable to ensure new and better economic opportunities.
The van has a standard seating capacity of two passengers (with optional add-ons available) and a maximum cargo volume of 128.6 cubic feet. This is perfect for commercial use when you have to haul a lot of goods or when you need a vehicle that is wheelchair accessible. What’s more, although it’s a big vehicle with a length of 189.7 inches and a width of 72.2 inches, you won’t need to stop and fill it up frequently because the EPA gave it an impressive estimated MPG of 20 in the city and 27 on the highway.

It’s tradition to ring in the new year with fireworks and most people love the colorful spectacle. However, it can be a stressful experience for our canine friends as they possess much better hearing than us and the big bangs scare them. That’s why Ford is using the noise-canceling insulation found in their vehicles to create kennels for pooches to put them at ease during the festivities. How does it work? Microphones inside the doghouse will be able to detect the commotion and transmit opposing frequencies from speakers. The concept of utilizing automotive technology to solve everyday problems is part of a Ford initiative called “Interventions.”
Of course, you don’t need an animal to benefit from state-of-the-art gadgets - you just need the 2019 Fusion V6 Sport. Under the hood rests an impressive 2.7L EcoBoost that cranks out a whopping 325 HP and 380 lb.-ft of torque. And you don’t have to think twice about tearing down the highway because it's got a ton of safety features. For example, blind spot monitoring is designed to identify other cars flanking you, and in the case that one is, an indicator light on the side-view mirrors illuminates to help prevent an accident!

Have you heard about the Ford Police Interceptor Utility? it's a vehicle specifically built to protect officers on duty. It has a set of unique features that differentiate it from normal cars, such as livery, lights, steel wheels, and a divider between the two seating rows. However, its greatest asset is the high-tech ballistic panels (bulletproof doors) that are used to shield the occupants from gunfire. What's more, they can easily make a clean getaway because this crossover is a sprinter: it can go from 0 to 60 in 6.4 seconds and up to 100 in just 16 seconds.
The SUV isn’t available for civilians but you can get your hands on a 2018 Ford Explorer XLT, which is the unmodified version. Its 3.5L V6 engine cranks out 290 horsepower at 6,500 revs per minute and 255 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm. As for top-notch safety features, it’s got Advancetrac with Roll Stability and ESC. This improves handling to maintain control and reduces the chance of skidding on all dangerous driving surfaces (especially snow, ice, gravel, and rain-covered roads).

The results are in: the 2019 Ford Ranger is the most fuel-efficient midsize pickup (that isn’t an EV) in the United States. Tests were conducted by the EPA, who gave it an estimated gas economy of 23 mpg combined (21 city/26 highway) for 4×2 trucks. The other factor that makes this vehicle a first-class industry leader is the standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. It cranks out 280 HP at 5,600 revs per minute and produces 310 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,000 rpm (the best within its category!)
Of course, those numbers mean nothing if this beauty doesn’t have some cool technology to back it up; fortunately, it does. The magnificent machine has the option of a Tech Pack, which adds many nifty tools designed to assist you. For example, the inter-urban AEB with pedestrian detection uses radars and cameras to advise you if cars, objects, or people are too close so you can avoid collisions; traffic sign recognition notices things like “speed limit" or "turn ahead” and acts accordingly; and the driver attention monitor continually assesses your behavior to aid in determining whether you’re becoming inattentive and should take a break.

Winter driving is known to be treacherous - but is it any easier in the fall? Ford engineers took it upon themselves to figure out which season causes a more hazardous surface: is it slush or layers of wet leaves? Let's dive into their findings!
In Belgium, an experiment was conducted using a device which analyzes friction to show how slippery the ground becomes when it's covered in lots of damp foliage. The results were compared to data retrieved from similar tests done with vehicles in snowy Scandinavian locations. The conclusion is that in certain situations, autumn can be equally perilous as the worst day in January. The research will assist in improving designs for future automobile safety features.
If you'd like to put your mind at ease while operating your car in dangerous circumstances, then check out the 2018 Ford Focus SEL! It has many great security accessories created to help you navigate nature at any time. It comes equipped with fog lamps which shine downwards and illuminate the road under low-lying clouds.
