One of Ford's notable crossovers going into the new year may be called the Edge, but it doesn't linger on the edge of greatness - it surpasses it. In addition to its aesthetic appeal and elevated level of comfort, the 2017 Edge also packs a punch with its enhanced towing capacity, buffered by a six-speed automatic transmission. Offering both style and muscle, it's the ideal choice for drivers who want to have their cake and eat it, too.

Depending on which variants of the Edge suits your fancy, you'll have a few trim options to choose from. Engine options range from a muscle-heavy twin-turbo V6 found
on the Edge Sport to a fuel-friendly turbocharged four-cylinder. "Each trim except the top one comes with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged I4 powerplant," Petar Mitrovic writes for OppTrends.com. "As expected, the strongest engine is in the range-topping Sport trim. Here we are talking about a 2.7-liter EcoBoost turbocharged V6 unit that delivers 315 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque." Optional features packages put even more personalization power into the driver's hands, offering the ability to customize and add advanced safety equipment (such as blind-spot monitoring) and entertainment elements (hello, Sync 3 infotainment interface!). Watch this year's Edge in action to get excited for what's to come:

An optional all-wheel-drive system also gives drivers the power to channel up to 100 perfect of the Edge's torque to either the front or the rear axles, based on a moment's needs. This ability to adjust on the fly should prove especially helpful for drivers that intend on towing, since hauling heavy can cause wear and tear on one's axles. Based on the Edge's 3,500-pound maximum trailer rating, it's clear that engineers at the Blue Oval crafted the crossover with this in mind - DemocratandChronicle.com raves about the Edge for this reason, saying that the high trailer rating "means the Edge can work (and play) hard as well." Other features, like an 180-degree front camera and active park assist, also add to the overall efficiency for towing and more; ultimately, it's made clear that Ford prioritizes both safety and efficiency. But don't think that those features come at the expense of comfort; the Edge is roomy enough to comfortably accommodate three adults side-by-side in the rear seats, also making it a prime choice for families.
