It's no secret that Ford prioritizes safety, quality and sustainability - but the automaker also ensures that convenience isn't left in the dust. Through their latest partnership with Panasonic System Communications Company of North America, the Blue Oval's making it notably simpler to return loaner vehicles.
The collaboration between Ford and Panasonic utilizes a Smart Service Kiosk, enabling customers to drop off and obtain their vehicle key or receive keys for a loaner vehicle, select services from a user-friendly menu, and even complete transactions for services. The technology is the first in its industry.
“Smart Service Kiosk enables Ford customers to drop off, pick up, select and pay for their vehicle service on their time, whether it’s outside of dealership service hours or to avoid waiting in line if the service staff is busy,” Brad Brownell, the director of Ford Global Distribution Strategy, said in a Ford release.
The drop-off process shines in its efficiency. Customers need only type in standard user/vehicle information using the kiosk touchscreen (or by scanning their driver's license QR code), create a custom PIN and select from the provided list of services before leaving the key. Email confirmation includes a QR code that can be scanned for key retrieval, if necessary. When ready for pick-up, the customer scans the QR code, enters their PIN and pays any applicable service bills before receiving their key.

Along with other updates, Ford Motor Company representatives delivered news about the automaker's all-new Ford Commercial Vehicle Center program at The Work Truck Show in March. The program replaces and builds upon the foundation left by the Ford Business Preferred Network that made its 1986 debut as Main Street USA.
The modernized program encompasses over 670 dealers nationwide who are dedicated to providing commercial and fleet customers with proper service support, financing options and vehicles to fit each company's needs. A broad range of in-stock Ford commercial vehicles makes that possible, as does the proprietary diagnostic software referred to as Commercial Vehicle Tools. On top of that, employees of the Commercial Vehicle Center receive cross-training from the factory to ensure that all customers receive a paragon of service and support. Departments within the Commercial Vehicle Center also keep their doors open for 55 hours per week at a minimum.

Passing along instructions and standards for excellence to one person is difficult enough; sharing them with multiple companies is another. In alignment with its mission to recognize and spread sustainability practices, Ford is offering a toolkit as part of its Partnership for A Cleaner Environment (PACE) program for participating suppliers. The toolkit includes over 350 leading practices contained within categories for energy, water, air emissions and waste. Learn more about Ford's initiatives in the video below:
The aforementioned practices would take too long to list in their entirety, but include initiatives that range in size - like reducing compressed air usage in manufacturing, or swapping LED lightbulbs for incandescent ones. One notable leading practice, dubbed Energy Treasure Hunts, show suppliers how to tap experts in their own facilities as invaluable resources, resulting in a greater number of identified opportunities for sustainability. The Blue Oval encourages suppliers to share their findings and support the program's cycle of sharing.
“We are serious about protecting lives and preserving the planet, and sharing best practices with Ford helps further that mission to sustain the environment globally,” Jim Laney, DENSO's senior manager of Safety, Health and Environment in North America, said of his company's participation in the PACE program.

Through the program, suppliers are able to better track and achieve their goals for sustainability - as of now, participating suppliers are already slated to conserve 550 million gallons of water over the next five years! On top of that, research collected in 2016 indicates that carbon emissions from participating PACE suppliers may be reduced by approximately 500,000 metric tons globally over the same time span.
“As a company, it’s important that we make quality products and minimize the impact on the environment by doing things the right way,” Mary Wroten, the senior manager of Ford Supply Chain Sustainability, said.

For the eighth year running, Ford Motor Company is taking a well-earned spot on Ethisphere's ranking of World's Most Ethical Companies. The list highlights companies that use their influence to promote positive change; Ford's 2017 accolade marks the longest streak for any automaker.
The Blue Oval's position on the list is the product of a steady commitment to ethics, one enforced through various initiatives targeted at safe working conditions and human rights, the Partnership for a Cleaner Environment program, the sourcing of conflict-free minerals and more. Additionally, Ford's team also cultivates long-standing relationships with suppliers, going the extra mile to offer training and evaluations to support adherence to protocol.
“Strong ethics and corporate citizenship are the foundation of our business philosophy, which demonstrates to our customers what we stand for as a company,” Bill Ford, Ford Motor Company's Executive Chairman, said in a statement.
Timothy Erblich, Ethisphere’s Chief Executive Officer, echoed Ford's sentiments in the same release.

The Chicago Auto Show may not rank among the big-name industry shows, but it certainly has its merit. Geared more towards the everyday consumer versus the driver with a palate for luxury, the show is arguably more indicative of vehicles' success with the general populace.
After attending the show, Autoguide.com's team rolled out their Top 5 Debuts from the 2017 Chicago Auto Show list; not surprisingly, the well-known Ford Expedition was among the winning mentions in the windy city.
As aptly summed up by AutoGuide's writer, "This people-hauler has been totally overhauled for 2018. Riding on a high-strength steel frame and featuring an aluminum skin, engineering enhancements that helped it shed around 300 pounds. Beyond this, the third-row seat has been enlarged for greater comfort and the engine improved." In reference to more of the nuts and bolts of the SUV, the Expedition also sports a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Together, expect to top out around 375 horsepower with 470 lb-ft of torque.

The recent 2017 Geneva Motor Show was a feast for the eyes, featuring a dazzling array of show-stopping vehicles. Autoguide.com's team was on the scene and, after assessing the new cars out on display, published their Top 10 Best Debuts at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show list. Second on the list was none other than the new Ford Fiesta ST, staking its rightful claim alongside the Audi RS 5, Lamborghini Huracan Performante and other luxury vehicles.
Thanks to its strong performance numbers and affordable price tag, the ST is the best of both worlds. As AutoGuide's writer noted, "Not everyone can afford an Audi, and for those people, the new Ford Fiesta ST debuted. And with good reason: although the turbo motor is actually downsized from its predecessor's, the Blue Oval promises more torque and power with the ST. As stated on AutoExpress.co, there are also rumors that the ST can go from 0-62 mph in a mere 6.7 seconds, comparable to the limited ST200 model.

At the Chicago Assembly Plant - home of the Ford Taurus and Explorer, which are also available at Sound Ford in Seattle, Washington - water sustainability is the name of the game through 2020, thanks to Ford's recently updated manufacturing water strategy.
In efforts to increase the level of sustainability, a pair of projects were recently set into motion; the first increases the re-use of water in the plant's pre-treatment system, and the second integrates a cooling tower side-stream electrolysis system to eliminate magnesium and calcium. Water is typically used in vast amounts for pre-treatment baths, as do the cooling towers that are common at automotive manufacturing plants. In line with the strategy, the plant is currently developing new processes to re-use up to 90 percent of water that's pulled for the pre-treatment process. According to Andy Hobbs, the Environmental Quality Office director, Ford is one of only 24 companies out of 600 to receive an “A” grade by CDP for its water allocation initiatives. The Chicago Assembly Plant example is only one of multiple Ford applications of its sustainability strategy.

“It may come as a surprise just how much water automotive plants actually use,” Rhonda Turner, Ford's plant environmental control engineer, said. “Last month alone, we used 17 million gallons, so it’s really beneficial for us to find innovative ways to save water.”

The Blue Oval's mobile water innovation, dubbed On-the-Go H2O, was recently selected as a finalist in two categories of Fast Company's 2017 World Changing Ideas Awards, which honor projects, ideas, businesses and more that provide innovative answers to issues affecting people today.
Ford engineers Doug Martin and John Rollinger developed the groundbreaking technology, which sparked from the question of cars' potential as water sources. The concept involves a system collecting condensation from car air conditioning systems, filtering them, and pumping the cleaned liquid back into a faucet located inside the vehicle for consumption.
