Ford's designers are constantly looking forward and preempting new trends and innovations – but they know the value of looking back, as well. The 2016 Ford F-150, in particular, takes this sentiment to another level with the Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature, pioneering a new form of trailer technology that puts power and finesse into the turn of a knob. Now, drivers can feel in control while making complex maneuvers in reverse.
This high-tech feature redefines the process of driving and backing up for truck drivers across the country, working in tandem with electric power-assisted steering (EPAS), center-stack screens and a rear view camera. Although the multi-part system can reduce vehicle speed – a trade-off for optimizing the levels of control and comfort in the vehicle on different types of roads – it's a small price to pay. The control knob is easily accessible and has the capacity to store up to ten different trailers in its system, expediting the set-up process for more than one conventional trailer. The technology is both user-friendly and trailblazing: Ford earned more than five patents through the production of this feature, with an additional 10 pending. By utilizing the new Pro Trailer Backup Assist technology, drivers need not be highly skilled in order to back up a trailer in any scenario. Visit us at Sound Ford Washington to find out for yourself.
