Ford’s F-150 is already at the apex of the truck world, so it’d be understandable if the company were to rest on its laurels heading into the 2018 model year. But not so—instead, their acclaimed pick-up is set to get even better due to substantive powertrain and fuel efficiency improvements.

Left Lane details the changes. Firstly, the new base engine is a spectacular 3.3L direct-injection V6 that replaces 2017’s 3.5L. Despite the shrink in size, it gains 8 HP and 12 lb.-ft. of torque (a total of 290 and 265, respectively). “Pinch at the pump” is further minimized, with 4x4 models hitting 20 MPG highway and 4x2 iterations receiving 22.

While horsepower on the 2.7L EcoBoost remains the same at 325, there’s now an additional 25 lb.-ft. of torque for a total of 400. Thanks in part to the new 10-speed automatic transmission, you’ll receive 24 and 26 MPG highway for 4x4 and 4x2 F-150s, respectively.

Finally, the 5.0L V8 ups the ante by gaining spray-on bore liner tech and direct injection design. This yanks horsepower output up to 395 (a gain of 10) and torque to 400 lb.-ft. (a gain of 13). The 10-speed also makes its mark here, improving efficiency to 22 and 23 MPG highway on the 4X4 and 4x2 trucks, respectively.
