The production process has forever been defined by paper - with engineers sketching chassis lines and engine ratios, turning ink smears into realities. Every drawing is a labor of time, patience, and necessity.
This is about to change.
According to MSNBC, Ford is bringing augmented reality to every platform - partnering with Microsoft to create a new kind of engineering. Utilizing exclusive HoloLens technology (which blends lock-step sensors, 3D imagery, and interactive digital downloads), the Big Blue Oval can more effectively design its fleet. Every model can be pieced together on a screen, with teams building entire engines with a single finger swipe. Photographs, patent files, and more can all be combined with ease; and this allows for faster, smarter results.
It also promises better platforms. Ford believes that augmented reality will provide its engineers with the support they need - enabling them to design F-150s, Mustangs, and Escapes with the press of a button. Teams can now better engage with one another, trading both suggestions and pixels in real-time; and the entire production process will be enhanced through virtual speeds.
