Everything's bigger in Texas, according to the well-known adage. And another adage - bigger is always better - proved to apply as well at the 2016 Texas Truck Rodeo, where the Texas Auto Writers Association bestowed the 'Truck of Texas' award to the 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty. The accolade isn't the F-Series' first rodeo, literally and figuratively; this year's award is the 13th time that the F-Series has swept the title.
Amongst a variety of other titles, the Truck of Texas award was announced by a panel of journalists just outside of Austin, TX at the 23rd annual event, which was held at the Longhorn River Ranch. With its superior combination of horsepower and torque and 6.2L gas V8, the Super Duty was a prime choice to win both the top honor and the Heavy Duty Pickup Truck award. The 2017 Ford F-150 also snagged the Best Powertrain award, and Ford as a whole won the 'Truck Line of Texas' award.
A course setup at the rodeo provided the perfect terrain to show off the trucks' capabilities and allow the panel of judges to determine the winners. According to Andre Smirnov from TFLTruck.com, who was present at the event, "TAWA committee setup three off-road courses: Level 1 (easy), Level 2 (moderate), and Level 3 (difficult). Not all trucks and SUVS were allowed to go on the Level 3 course, but journalists were able to evaluate and compare trucks in the same class back to back and on the same courses."
