The 2017 Ford Raptor recently went below the border and ended up a cut above the rest at this year's Baja 1000 off-road race on November 20th. The notorious race, which starts and finishes in Ensenada, was an 854.8-mile loop that challenged even the most experienced off-road racers. But the tough terrain and the other competitors weren't enough to hold back the Raptor - not only did it complete the course map with less than 52 seconds to spare, it immediately began the long haul back to its home base in Arizona without a beat.

One may argue that the 2017 Raptor was made for the Baja route; after all, the new, second-generation Raptor has a "Baja Mode" that kicks it into its highest configuration for high-speed sand driving. Such a designation warrants tangible proof, though, which put added pressure on Greg Foutz, the driver and builder of the Raptor that crossed the finish line with such grandeur. Watch the 2017 Raptor hit the dusty road in the video below:

Foutz's outfit, Foutz Motorsports, currently runs Ford's factory off-road racing program, and a no-show at the Baja 1000 would have piqued both curiosity and doubt. But any hints of doubt were promptly quelled when the Raptor clocked in a 35:59:08.151, just shy of the 36-hour official finish mark. And in a defiant, final demonstration of its capabilities, the Raptor wasted no time hitting the road again; only a brief interlude for gas was required before it started the 399.87-mile journey back up to its Arizona headquarters.

With 450 horsepower, a 3.5L V-6 engine and 510 lb-ft torque - not to mention the 66" truck bed length - the 2017 Ford Raptor is not a truck to underestimate. Don't hesitate to stop by Sound Ford in Seattle, Washington and learn more about the 2017 Raptor's upcoming debut, and take a test-drive in any truck from our available selection.
