Ready to get the party started and ring in 2017 with sparklers and balloons? Don't forget about one party in particular - although it's best described as a Fiesta.
Even though the Ford Fiesta isn't Ford's most sought-after vehicle (compared to flagship vehicles like the F-150 trucks), it's certainly not a small passenger car to overlook for the new year. The next-generation Fiesta is slated to become more popular internationally, in large markets like China and Europe. Over its lifetime, sales of the Fiesta have already surpassed 18 million units in Europe and has retained the title of the UK's best-selling car month-over-month for seven years running; both numbers are testaments to the Fiesta's success both domestically and internationally. And as of October 2016, performance lineup sales - of which the Fiesta contributes to - are up 73% in Europe.
According to Jessica Bishop, the brand manager for Ford Focus, "For decades, we heard criticism from customers that Ford sold its best small cars only in Europe, yet in five short years we've built a reputation [in the U.S.] for making very serious but affordable performance cars with our Focus ST and Fiesta ST one-two punch." She added, "Buyers now know Ford is committed to affordable performance."
Given that the Fiesta is making waves across continents, the next generation of the car will provide a refined driving experience for any car enthusiast. "For starters, the new Fiesta will become more refined, with additional safety systems and a more premium interior and infotainment display," Daniel Miller writes for Fool.com. But the real story is that Ford is going to make the Fiesta more profitable by reducing complexity -- probably fewer 'orderable combinations' and trim options."
