After evaluating 40 vehicles in October and November, WardsAuto.com awarded the 2.3-liter EcoBoost I-4 powering Ford Focus RS with the 2017 10 Best Engines award. This year marks the first time that a specially engineered engine has taken home a prize in the revered competition, and for good reason. With 350 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque on 93-octane fuel, the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine is a force not easily reckoned with, and offers even more to customers than meets the eye.
Thanks to a low-inertia twin-scroll turbocharger that makes its debut, engine output is powerful and swift. A larger compressor wheel also provides a greater amount of airflow throughout the rev range, which enables the Focus RS to accelerate from 0-62 mpg in a mere 4.7 seconds. Four drive mode options are also available for the hot hatch, not to mention the groundbreaking Ford Performance All-Wheel Drive with Dynamic Torque Vectoring that surpasses competitors in cornering speed.

WardsAuto.com editors analyzed award contenders by "driving to and from home, work, school, the hardware store and on weekend roadtrips," according to Tom Murphy for the website.
