Now that Ford's sales numbers have been tallied and finalized, it's clear that the year 2016 was one for the books. With a total of 2,614,698 vehicles driven off the lots, the automaker recorded its greatest sales results in a decade; Ford brand sales of 2,502,973 vehicles also lock in the Blue Oval's status as the best-selling brand nationwide for seven years consecutively.
Contributing to the record-breaking numbers were sales of Ford's F-Series trucks, with a total of 820,799 sales that make it both the best-selling pickup in America for 40 years in a row and the best-selling vehicle for 35. Overall U.S. truck sales for Ford - including pickups, heavy trucks and vans - came out at 1,077,006 vehicles. This marks a year-over-year increase of seven percent.
For vans in particular, Ford sold 240,721 in 2016, a nine percent sales increase that also cements Ford as the best-selling commercial brand van for 38 years in a row. With sales of 143,244, Transit vehicles also increased by an astonishing 22 percent - see one in action in the video below:
Additionally, sales of 772,667 SUVs gave Ford its best annual performance since the record-breaking year of 2001. The Ford Escape and Edge also posted recognition-worthy sales for the year - 307,069 and 134,588, respectively.
Given the sky-high sales recorded for 2016, Ford vehicles probably won't stay on the lot very long this year. Don't miss the chance to take one home; take a test-drive at Sound Ford in Seattle, Washington today.
