The new year's off to a good start, if January's domestic retail sales are any indication. According to numbers provided by Ford Sales Analyst Erich Merkle, sales were up across the board, paving the way for success during the first quarter.

Although total sales decreased slightly by 1 percent, U.S. retail sales of 120,400 vehicles represent a 6-percent increase. The latter number, Merkle asserts, is the one worth honing in on.

"We were up 6 percent, and growing by 6 percent, while also driving near-record average transaction prices for Ford, which
were up $2,500 versus [one] year ago and far outpacing the overall industry in January of $550," he stated in a clip provided by Ford. "That’s a pretty impressive accomplishment.”

Sales of F-Series trucks, in particular, topped out just shy of 58,000 sales - a 13-percent increase that was primarily supported by F-150 and Super Duty retail sales. The respective trucks increased by 15 percent and 30 percent, respectively. Watch one of Ford's newest F-150 clips in the video below:

SUV sales also peaked with a 6 percent overall increase and an 11 percent retail increase, resulting in a record start for Ford brand SUVs. SUV sales also had a record start for the New Year.
