If you’re looking for a vehicle that has the sleek look of an SUV, but the security and comfort of a minivan, look no further than the 2014 Toyota Venza. The Car Connection found the Venza to be one of the better five-passenger wagons on the market, calling it a grown-up hatchback.
The 3.5-liter V6 engine wields a brawny 268 horsepower. Given its size, the Venza gets a respectable fuel economy of 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. If you find yourself schlepping heavy loads often, there’s a Towing Prep Package, which can tow as much as 3,500 pounds.
Behind the wheel, you’ll find the Venza handles more like a reliable minivan than an SUV. Seating is higher for the driver, offering a great vantage point. There’s also seemingly endless space that can easily accommodate five bulkier adults. Entering and exiting the car is a breeze for extra tall passengers.
Up front, the high-mounted shift lever frees space between the driver’s and co-pilot’s seats to create room for a generously sized bin, large cupholders, and smaller storage spots. The standard touchscreen is simple to use and works seamlessly in tandem with the steering-wheel controls. You can upgrade to Toyota’s Entune system, which allows you to use Pandora Internet radio, make a dinner reservation, or purchase movie tickets right through the touchscreen.
