For 2016, Nissan made some big updates to the Altima, making it a worthy contender for a family car. This super sedan now offers exceptional safety features, up-to-date technology, and an EPA rating everyone will love. Consider a used model for your next sedan.
The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine puts out 182 horsepower, which a review by The Car Connection found to be much more eager than one would expect. When you have to balance the schedules of multiple people in one car, you’re going to want a good fuel efficiency. Families will be pleased to learn that this powertrain delivers 27 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway.
Safety is paramount in a family vehicle and this Nissan does not disappoint. Standard features include a rearview camera, blind-spot monitors, forward-collision warnings with automatic braking, and a lane-departure warning system. The Altima got outstanding crash test ratings, receiving a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS, along with top scores in every category. It also received a perfect five-star overall rating from the NHTSA.
This year, the Altima has caught up with the rest of its segment in terms of infotainment. Bluetooth, text-to-voice translation, and a 5.0-inch LCD display all come standard. Passengers can also use both Pandora and Google Maps. Most models are fitted with Siri Eyes Free, a voice control option for iPhone users.
